The oversizing trap
It seems logical. A bigger AC should cool your house faster. In practice the opposite is true.
An oversized unit blasts cold air, hits the set temperature, and shuts off. It never runs long enough to pull humidity out of the air. The house feels clammy, and the unit wears out from short cycling.
How we size a system
We run a load calculation. It accounts for square footage, ceiling height, window count, insulation, and how the sun hits the house. The older homes near the Pelham line need a different answer than a newer build.
- Measured square footage by room
- Insulation and window condition
- Sun exposure and shade
- Ductwork capacity
The right size, the right comfort
A correctly sized system runs longer at a lower output. It holds an even temperature, controls humidity, and costs less to run.
If a contractor quotes a tonnage without measuring anything, ask why. We always show our numbers before we recommend a system.
